The fourth annual Vassiliki Watersports Festival kicks off on Friday this week (11th June) with a four day display of acrobatics and tricks from the world’s best freestyle windsurfers. The year’s festival includes for the first time the EFPT (European Freestyle Pro Tour) with 10,000 euros of prize money and the competition is spread out with two days racing in Vassiliki to the south and Milos beach to the north of Lefkas Island.

For the first time ever the event is being broadcast live over the internet; viewers all over the world can vote not only for the best windsurfer every day but also for their favourite in the Miss Bikini competition staged in Vassiliki main harbour on the Saturday night.

The festival also includes a sailing regatta open to catamarans, Lasers, dinghies and yachts as well as a GPS Speed competition and Slalom race for windsurfers, a mountain bike race as well as a whole host of evening entertainments commencing with the 9 piece Ska Reggea band, ‘Les Skartoi’ from Patras, at the opening night on Friday 11th.

With Lefkas now only 4 hours from Athens by road and with rooms available for only 30 euros a night, the organisers of the event, the Municipality of Apollo, extend a warm welcome to entrants and spectators to what has now become the largest such festival in all of Greece.
